Our brand Ohuhu was inspired by the scenic Hawaiian island, Oahu - a place where inspiration flourished and was so easily accessible. A place where nature painted the landscape in beautiful shades of blue and green, and where everyone could enjoy it.
It was there that the idea for Ohuhu was born. Our founder wanted everyone to be able to express themselves easily and creatively the moment inspiration struck them.
And the most accessible way to do that was through the simple but mighty marker.
With our mission in mind to bring art and inspiration to everyone, we set out to develop high-quality, wallet-friendly markers to the masses. After months of R&D, testing and many artworks created, we developed our first product - the Ohuhu 40 Colors Dual Tip Alcohol Art Markers, Fine & Chisel, priced at less than USD $20 to keep things affordable.
To our delight, the marker set was well-received from many - from the budding artist to the creative gurus. Our creative juices were fuelled from the many artworks and drawings our community shared with us.
From then, we continued to expand the range of colors up to 320 different shades in a single set!
4 years on, and we knew we needed to do more. So we looked to the community for inspiration, and kickstarted our Facebook, Instagram and website so that we could reach everyone directly.
From there, we heard what you loved and was not a fan of, and heard everyone’s collective feedback of wanting markers with a brush tip for their calligraphy and lettering needs.
So we embarked to develop our new product, and the Ohuhu 48 Colors Alcohol Art Markers, Brush & Chisel was born.
Coming up with a completely new product was nerve-wrecking as we did not know if the new markers would meet everyone’s lettering needs. But the markers were well received and you shared that it helped to stroked up inspiration. It met your needs. It kept your love for the art fresh and new.
We did not want to stop innovating for our community. But then it struck us - our community could be represented through the colors of our markers.
At that point, skin tone markers only came in a few shades of beige, but when our world was this diverse, our colors should be multi-dimensional as well.
So we developed Version 1.0 of Ohuhu Skin Tone Markers. And the community voiced out that more could be done to make it more inclusive.
Today, we are so proud to share that Version 2.0 of Ohuhu Skin Tone Markers include 36 beautiful shades. And while we know that more can be done to make the set more inclusive, we are just getting started.
Our community then shared with us that they wanted pastel-colored markers. So that stroke up inspiration, and we worked hard with our colorists to ensure the light colored pigments were perfect - that they were vibrant and blended beautifully.
And they launched in December 2020.
Ohuhu may be a homage to the beautiful scenes of Oahu, but what keeps our brand going is you - our community. Ohuhu has always set out to be a brand that kept art affordable and accessible; one that allowed art to take its form whenever inspiration struck, regardless of budget.
Ohuhu strives to empower everyone to paint up your inspiration. And we hope to do so for the years to come.
