Great microphone. Requires phantom power. Came quickly and has really good range for recording. I have used it for a some studio work as well as some podcasting applications. On both occasions it has worked out very well.
I'm giving this microphone 5 stars because through my current usb mixer (Behringer Xenyx 302USB) this mic sounds awesome! I am an occasional user of recording equipment for mainly song writing, and recording on my computer using a USB mixer and multitrack software (that came with my mixer), but I have a history of being involved with performing and recording that goes back quite a few years.
This microphone was a complete surprise to me!!! For this price, well, let's just say that I was not expecting too much. What a shock to discover that this microphone not only looks great, but also sounds amazing. Yes, the shock mount is made of plastic, and the mic feels light compared to other pro mics that I have used in the past, but the performance is on par with a microphone I own that costs 8 times as much. The frequency response range lies inside of the average human hearing range, so if it can't pick up a sound, you probably can't hear it anyway. The mic is listed as being a large diaphragm mic, and looking through the windscreen, I estimate the diaphragm to be between 3/4" and 1" in diameter. This puts it right at the very top of "medium" diaphragm and "large" diaphragm, but HEY!!! $22.00!!! The important thing is that it SOUNDS big, and it has a nice full bodied sound. Perfect for broadcasting, and pod-casting. I won't give you a full listing of the specs because I can see that other reviewers have already done that for you. I'm pretty sure that this microphone was manufactured and packaged in China, so the included instructions can be fun to read, however, operation is simple and straight-forward, so you won't need them. Before I forget, for all of you newbies out there, this microphone is unidirectional with a Cardioid pickup pattern. Do not aim the end of the mic at your mouth. For optimum vocal performance, you need to speak into the side of the windscreen. Which side? you ask. The side that says "Ohuhu" on it.
The only real issue then would be the need for phantom power. Let's talk about phantom power for a moment. Power requirements for an electret condenser microphone is 5 vdc. This is the most often used type used with soundcards, which will supply the voltage through the mic input. A powered usb mixer like mine can supply up to 15 vdc through it's XLR input. A true studio phantom power supply will provide 48 vdc, which meet the power requirements of any powered microphones that a studio would be using. The cable that was provided is for plugging the microphone into a sound card, not a microphone or line in connection on a computer. This microphone will work with a sound card, but not as well as it will work with proper phantom power because being a larger diaphragm microphone, it's power requirements are higher. I found it to work really well with the 15 vdc that my mixer provides, but I had to use a standard XLR to XLR mic cable(not included) to achieve this. I was also able to connect the microphone to my headset microphone input with the included cable, which gave me the same performance I would achieve with a sound card. This may be adequate for some, but I did notice that the input level was reduced by half, which would mean that to achieve the same sound level, I would have to increase the gain of the input, which almost always will increase the noise level. If you do need a phantom power supply, you can pick one up on Amazon for about $20. I have included the link with this review.
All of that being said, I welcome this microphone as a very useful new addition to my recording "tool box".
Ohuhu 1- Channel 48V Phantom Power Supply with Adapter, BONUS XLR Extension Cable
I was given a free sample of this product in return for my unbiased evaluation.
Sturdy, easy to use.
You can use it for much more than 'music.' Just clip it ...anywhere! I do. Got more than I bargained for. Great!
I just got this microphone. The very first thing I noticed was how it was packed. Beautiful. It has a very nice gold trim. This a condenser microphone. I had very little problem with distortion, as it also comes with a foam cap if need to reduce any distortion. Now I used my microphone on my pc. I did not need the phantom power supply. I simply plugged the 3.5 into my microphone jack. Now I'm assuming if you want super loud sound that's where the phantom power supply comes in. I also noticed that there are no controls or settings on the microphone unit itself, but all of this can be adjusted on your pc under your sound settings. The unit does come with a shock mount with 2 locking knobs for different styles of mounting. This microphone is inexpensive and I've had no problems at all!!!
This is a very good product. Just as advertised, it is well packaged. It came with all the accessories that I needed so I was able to use it straight out of the box.
The sound is perfect with very little noticeable distortion. For the price, it is a very good deal. I have been using it for a month or so and so far it has been perfectly. I would definitely recommend this if you are in need for a hassle free microphone.
First off, at this price range it's hard to find this kind of value. The Mic is constructed well and feel substantial in your hand. The sound quality when compared to some more expensive units is pretty good and I know that my wife has made use of it in her Youtube videos. Would I suggest this as a super high end unit, obviously not, but is the value exceptional? Absolutely, without question you will be pleased at this price point. When I opened the box I was actually wondering to myself how the company could possibly make any money selling it for this price and delivering on the quality that they have. As others have mentioned it will sound like a Mic that costs several times what this unit does.
My son wanted an upgrade from a webcam microphone for gaming, recording youtube audio tracks, etc.
This comes as a microphone with the depicted soft plastic cage. You'll need a stand and a phantom power supply to power it. Plugged straight into a 3.5mm jack you can get a PC to pick up sound if you talk very loud into it, but with the power supply it picks up at a good distance, at least 3 feet.
Some audio gear intended for a mic like this has the power supply already built in. I used an inexpensive neewer phantom supply that worked great.
We also picked up a stand that clamps on the desk behind his monitor and can be moved into any practical position and includes a pop shield.
It all worked pretty straightforward, the power supply connects in series between the mic and 3.5mm PC input. Windows 10 detected it and let us set it up. After that it worked perfectly.
Pretty low cost of entry for a mic, a stand and a power supply. You could pay a lot more and end up with about the same performance. Ideal for stage and broadcast usage, but very nice for any application where a usb, webcam or other small mic isn't good enough.
I received this product from the manufacturer for review purposes. I often end up buying more of the products I receive as they're usually well made and well priced.
I needed a stand that was collapsible and this one seemed.the best. The adjustable height is nice, but it seems to make the stand feel a bit wobbly when extended.
Ohuhu customer service has contacted me and has stood behind their product 100%. For this I give them a full 5 stars.
You can't even come close to beating this microphone for the price! it is very high quality and works great. But, as they have said in earlier comments it does require phantom power. the power thing was not a problem though because i already had the set up for it. The mic shock stand is also great. I was able to kick my stand and not have the microphone even notice it! I definitely recommend using this microphone if you have a way to power it. If you just plan to plug it strait into your computer it will not work just as a heads up. I will be using this microphone to record music, but you could use it with videos and so much more!
Working great on home studio
